The Learning Environment of the 21 ST Century

The coming of the new millennium encourages a new vision in education. Technologically mediated learning, especially distance learning, will become a commonplace phenomenon in the 21 st century. This article defines and describes Collaborative Learn-ing Networks (CLNs), the learning environment of the future. It explores the qualities that are essential for success in the new model of learning. The authors trace the effects of the learning paradigm of higher education back to elementary and secondary education, as well as linking it to success in the work environment.
