Abstract

We propose a "Internet Literacy Curriculum Model" which is suitable for introducing the Internet to computer beginners in the school education other than in computer classes. We planned the curriculum based on this model and it was operated in English lessons at Keio Girls High School from July 1998 to February 1999. The aim of this curriculum is to acquire English adjusted to the progress of Internet literacy. Students started from web browsing to search the latest world news ,then made their own homepage to present opinions. BBS was also used to exchange opinions with other students including students overseas. As a result, students were much more interested in the lessons by using the Internet although having some problems when a new tool was introduced. They also have realized the importance and joy of sending messages not only to the teacher, but to other people over the Internet .
