Abstract

Athabasca University is one of the worlds leading open universities specializing in distance education. The Centre for Nursing and Health Studies at Athabasca University currently offers both Undergraduate and Graduate courses online via the Internet. We have created a highly interactive learning environment for health professionals by integrating a central website with student and instructor course tools. Students and Faculty have the opportunity to collaborate using an Online Study Guide, Email, Chat, and Grading Tools. We have strived to ensure that learning tools incorporated during the design and development process are both pedagogically sound and user friendly. The benefits and drawbacks of offering a fully integrated online health studies program will be explored and explained.
