Abstract

In this session we will describe and demonstrate how learning science was used to align and integrate enterprise systems for instructional design, production, and delivery. We will describe the learning science foundations, particularly the Pittsburgh Science of Learning Center’s (PSLC) Knowledge-Learning-Instruction framework. We’ll share how we translated those learning science foundations into a set of standard templates for design and delivery. We will demonstrate the delivery platform, (a highly customized version of Moodle), and show how the presentation templates are automatically populated by XML content. We’ll describe the tools and process for content production and publishing. We’ll share our challenges and solutions in building and implementing the end-to-end system. We’ll also report results of a large experimental study that compared three undergraduate courses redesigned in the new format, with existing courses. The redesigned courses resulted in a 29% increase in student success.
