Abstract

Over the past decade, college graduates with degrees in information systems (IS), have lacked proper soft skills and faced difficulties with job placement (Fang & Lee, 2005; Sandvig et al., 2005). Revisions of university curricula for information system (IS) departments have been requested to meet changes and produce more qualified applicants; yet a skill gap still exists (Maier et al., 1998; Kim, 1998; Lee et al, 1995). The purpose of this study is to explore the alignment of the soft skill expectations of current IS entry-level employers in literature and electronic job advertisements with the integration of soft skills in undergraduate IS curricula of public four-year universities in Texas. This content analysis will provide specific employer expectations and data to assist with curriculum development and redesign. Results could impact educators, program coordinators, human resource administrators, career counselors, students, corporate trainers, information systems consultants, and agency recruiters.
