Abstract

Abstract: Teacher candidates cringe at the mention of a collaborative activity or project. What could provide the “magic carrot” that makes collaboration in the classroom something candidates seek out rather than avoid? Could social networking tools actually be collaboration in disguise? The following study was formed on the premise that social networking tools could positively impact student perceptions of group project collaboration. This presentation will examine the impact of four social networking tools on student beliefs and participation in group work, and analyze how four specific online tools (Blogs, Wikis, Social Bookmarking, and Google Docs) contribute to cooperative learning experiences.
