Abstract

Abstract: This poster session details the use of mobile phones for 3 tasks in an English as a foreign language (EFL) context in Japan. First, students from 7 classes participated in a treasure hunt that used features commonly available on Japanese mobile phones: the QR code feature was used to deliver hints, the camera feature was used for students to document their efforts, and the mail feature was used for students to communicate with their instructor about their progress. Next, an exercise will be described where students used their mobile phone cameras to prepare a PowerPoint presentation. Finally, a pronunciation activity will be discussed where participants were encouraged to use the recording function of their mobile phones to submit their efforts. Results will be detailed that show a majority of student were able to use their mobile phones to complete the above activities, and student accounts indicate that they are amenable to the use of mobile phones for such tasks.
