Abstract

As educators encourage students to exchange and critically challenge the construction of knowledge and learning through the use of their own voice, the interplay and reassertion of power embedded within ‘a culture of entitlement learning’ may raise several unanticipated problems. Faculty will need to reassess how critical thinking as fostered through feminist pedagogies can simultaneously be utilized to acknowledge the value of different perspectives and divergent experiences in learning without compromising the learning process online. In this paper, the dynamics and complexities inherent in shifting from a traditional learning and teaching environment towards situating learning through connections of content within a specific context, will be critically assessed with a focus on feminist pedagogy in a ‘culture of entitlement learning’ within the virtual classroom.
