Abstract
This study is to evaluate available EST textbooks in the light of suitability as well as merits and demerits for average technical college students majored in engineering in Taiwan. An EST textbook evaluation checklist was developed referring to related literature and students’ learning needs. Eleven textbooks were evaluated. The results show that only one textbook, which mainly deals with general interest topics in science and technology, and provides training in all four skills, barely meets the needs of the target students, without also considering its difficult vocabulary levels.
