There is an increasing trend for institutions of higher education to implement assessment strategies that include outcome measures of student and program effectiveness. At the center of assessment activities is the E-portfolio, a digitized collection of student work, responses to work, and reflections that are used to demonstrate key skills and accomplishments for a variety of contexts and time periods. This proposal includes the following: (a) a brief review of the literature on the use of E-portfolios in higher education, (b) a discussion of student and institutional advantages and disadvantages in the use of E-portfolios, (c) global use of E-portfolios, and an informal case study.
