Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCH) is the regional body providing public health care services to a large geographic region containing 13 acute care and rehab facilities and hundreds of clinics, treatment centres and residential care facilities. In 2008, VCH launched a one year project to develop a new online version of regional orientation to all new hires. This program replaced a day long in-person session held monthly. It is thought this new program will: improve access to regional orientation materials, improve understanding of the organization and basic health and safety information; improve compliance with WorksafeBC’s new hire requirements; and, reduce the number of hours spent on basic new hire orientation. The concurrent research project will assess whether the program has achieved these objectives. The next steps are to update the content as part of the ongoing annual review and make changes to the program based on user feedback.
