Abstract

Abstract: The increasing demand of on-line courses in colleges and universities draws much attention and interest to evaluate awareness, practices, and accommodations of faculty in respect to Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Institutions, programs, and individuals who are committed to use distance learning as the type of instructional environment will need to design and implement teaching strategies that will meet all participants’ needs regardless of their abilities and challenges. UDL can play a critical role in meeting the needs and accommodations of individuals with disabilities as well. It is the aim of this paper to assess current faculty awareness, practices, and accommodations at the University of Hawai’i, Manoa, of UDL within the contexts of their online courses and distance learning environments. The data from this research may be applied to improve procedures and implement policies for distance learning at the University of Hawai’i, Manoa, thus improving guidelines and online experiences for all stakeholders involved.
