Abstract
As of September 2007, 42 states have significant supplemental online learning programs (in which students enrolled in physical schools take one or two courses online), or significant full-time programs, or both" according to Watson (2007). The symposium will be introduced by Niki Davis who will provide an overview of Virtual Schooling and introduce the national initiative and its community that is taking preservice teacher education into virtual schooling. Five papers will follow with opportunities for SITE participants to ask questions and engage with the materials from the innovative national project she leads, which is developing practice with hundreds of future teachers in at least four programs nationwide. Evaluation so far suggests that these materials are valuable and easy to adopt and adapt. The plenary session in the final 45 minutes will also advocate for equity in high quality education.
