Effects of Visual-Map-based Electronic Portfolio System in Science Learning

Abstract
This paper discusses one of series of studies investigating the possible merits of adopting a visual map-based interface in an electronic portfolio system for science learning activities. For this, a randomized control-group pretest and post-test desig was employed. In the control group, students accessd a traditional folder-based interface in an electronic portfolio system and in the experimental group, students accssed a visual map-based system. In the information processing performance test, the experimental group students scored significantly higher and spent much less time in finding answers to the questions presented. Also, in the three-day delayed memory retention tests, the experimental group students achieved significantly higher scores.
