Abstract
The deep, rich tones of The Lord of the Rings, the royal reds of Star Wars, Revenge of the Sith and the color saturation of World of Warcraft are all similar to things that can be found in paintings done hundreds of years ago. With the advent of digital photographic manipulation the picture-making virtues of such artists as Rembrandt, Casper David Friedrich, Watteau and Turner are having a renaissance, with their influence being seen in many cinematic and game related releases. This paper briefly proposes a technical commonality between these two very different practices.
