Abstract

Requiring students to create PowerPoint presentations can provide an effective and imaginative way for students to demonstrate what they understood about a curriculum topic. Yet, many teachers are reluctant to develop such assignments because they are uncomfortable with the instructional and organizational strategies needed to work with students as the students work on a PowerPoint presentation. The article presents six practical steps for teachers to follow in developing assignments that require students to create a PowerPoint presentation including defining the curriculum objective for a lesson, designing strategies for student research, designing a layout for the presentation, working with students at the computers, developing alternative disaster plans, and sharing the PowerPoint presentation with fellow students, parents, and with the community.
