Abstract

This presentation focuses on the project “Generation AI”, funded by the Strategic Research Council (SRC) within the Academy of Finland. This multidisciplinary project addresses the need to develop social practices, pedagogical models, and educational technology for educating the "Generation AI" about the defining technology of their era. The project brings together researchers from computer science, education, and legal research and works with pre-service and in-service teachers and children and youth from pre-primary to 9th grade. The project evaluates and maps the pre/in-service teachers’ and K-9 learners’ data agency and cybersecurity strategies and systematizes the relevant legal frameworks. It develops and pilots ML/AI-based educational technology, classroom material and pedagogical practices as well as measures the impact of those interventions on learners’ data agency. For educators, the project provides much needed pedagogical models, practical guidelines, and tools for facilitating children’s and youth’s agentive actions in a data-driven society.
