Abstract
This brief paper presents a work-in-progress research and development project targeting the use of Learning Analytics at the elementary level teaching. Within this paper, we provide perspectives for the use of analytics especially from the teachers’ perspective. Learning analytics refers to collection, analysis and reporting of data about students’ learning activities for supporting their learning. Typically, the research targeting the use of learning analytics have remained rather minor role within elementary level context. One reason for this is that the elementary level classroom is a challenging learning environment from the perspective of the analytics. Still, the analytics provide well justified ways of supporting learning even in the classroom environments. Within this short paper, we provide theoretical perspectives for teacher interactive thinking during the classes and ponder the role of the analytics as part of teachers’ thinking. The aim is in posing questions about the challenges and benefits of the analytics at the elementary level classrooms.
