Research on STEAM Practice Programs to Enhance Self-Efficacy of Pre-Service Special Education Teachers

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of 40 hours STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) programs on the self-efficacy of pre-service special education teachers. Participants included thirty-nine pre-service special education teachers. The research method included the use of self-efficacy inventory. The inventory coded and entered into an Excel format. Data analyzed with percentage, t-test, and Pearson Correlation. The main findings was as follow:
- The participants on the STEAM practice programs that their self-efficacy was improved.
- More than 94% of pre-service special education teachers like STEAM practice programs through hands-on activities.
- There was 69.1% of pre-service special education teachers on STEAM practice programs most like art-creative activities, 90% thought that technology-related activities were the most difficult.
- The factors that influence the self-efficacy of pre-service special teachers on STEAM were their ability in different fields and their preference for STEAM practice programs. Participants will use STEAM learning content for teaching and their continuous professional development.
- There was a positive correlation between STEAM attitudes and self-efficacy on STEAM programs. The correlation was r=5.72, p<.05. STEAM attitudes was thought the important dependents of influence self-efficacy.
