Abstract

To remain competitive in the 21st century it is necessary to have the correct knowledge at the correct time and at the right place in order to make a proper and informed decision. The only way to accomplish this goal is by making education widely accessible to everyone through e-learning. E-learning provides an innovative approach for delivering education through the Internet and other technologies. The move from conventional to virtual has created a new paradigm shift from teacher-centered to student-centered learning environment. This new approach has enhanced student's higher-order thinking skills such as critical thinking, creativity and problem solving, as well as effective communication skills. The paper also proposes a new architecture for a virtual learning environment in higher education
