Abstract

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) systems must allow candidates to have easy and clear access to all the information they need about the system of educational assessments and processes they will encounter as they pursue recognition of their knowledge and skills. Candidates can become better informed, better prepared, and better able to understand the nature of their own knowledge and abilities when they have open access to a system that allows an experience of each step of PLAR and provides opportunities for self-assessment, preparatory activities, and learning about the process as a whole. IPLAR represents innovative use of Internet and World Wide Web technologies to help meet this challenge.
