In meeting the challenges of pedagogy for ALL students, we are facing the need for a paradigm shift to ‘participatory’ learning (Poore, M. 2016). For students with disabilities, this may be ‘equal access to opportunities, experiences, skills, and knowledge that will prepare youth’ for full participation in life, work, careers, and advanced education (Jenkins, 2006). PBS Parents asserts that Inclusive education happens when children with and without disabilities participate and learn together in the same classes. The word participatory comes from participation, which refers to the action of taking part in activities and projects, the act of sharing in the activities of a group (McLoughlin & Lee 2007). The process of participation fosters mutual learning. Research shows that when a child with disabilities attends classes alongside peers who do not have disabilities, good things happen. Participatory Skills in inclusive learning environment comprise empowerment, responsibility, creativity, democratic involvement, performance, networking, experimentation, leadership, negotiation, teamwork, communication, evaluation, collaboration, play, social skills, real-world tasks, membership, knowledge, decision-making, and critical thinking.
