Abstract

This paper centres on two web-based support tools for the practicum or field experience component of a pre-service teacher education program at UOIT, in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. The first tool is the Field Experience Portal (FEP), a web-based tool for teacher candidates, their associate or cooperating teachers, and the practicum staff. Although the FEP’s primary function is to provide associate teachers with the online summative assessment, it also provides users with information specific to the university’s program, a forum for direct communication with the practicum staff, and a second resource—FELConline. FELConline, or the Field Experience Learning Community online, is a web-based learning tool for anyone involved in the practicum of a pre-service teacher education program. This paper provides a brief overview of the tools (including their evolution) and lessons learned based on feedback from associate teachers.
