Abstract

The Learning Lab is an online professional development program for teachers who want to upgrade their information technology skills and learn more about integrating technology into teaching and learning. The program is based on self-directed learning. It includes prior learning assessment and development of personalized learning plans as core components of the program. A wide range of learning paths, modules, learning objects, and resources are provided to meet the needs of teachers whose skill levels range from emergent technology learners to education technology leaders. The Learning Lab provides opportunities for teachers to work at their own pace, in the curriculum area of their choice, and to apply their research and their learning into the classroom. Offered as both a non-credit and credit program, The Learning Lab provides an easily accessible, media-resource rich, mediated model for teacher professional development programs that meets international standards and strives to address key issues in ITC training.
