Abstract

This paper is an overview of a project that was designed to assist students preparing to enter post-secondary education. For years we have noticed that students enter our programs that have a shortage of some of the basic skills that are needed to succeed. One area that this is particularly evident is basic mathematic skills. Math skills have been an issue and with the increased use of technology in the classroom and on the job, the problem is increasing. To assist the students prior to attending the technical training we have designed the math MOOC to allow them to refresh or relearn some of the math basics. The second purpose of the math MOOC is to expose students to trade examples of math so that they realize that understanding basic math concepts is critical prior to taking technical training in a trade area.
