Abstract

Advance Organizers (AO) have been applied to improve learning since the 1960’s, however they have not been experimentally examined as Human-Computer Interfaces to improve Usability and Learnability. Moreover, AO’s have never been scientifically evaluated in the context of team or collective HCI. This paper describes the scientific evaluation of an interactive AO team interface with regard to Usability and Learnability outcomes in two contexts: Team immersive interaction where all Users are physically present in a team setting and an ‘online’ setting where individual Team Users may be separated in time and space. It is suggested that the use of an interactive Advance Organizer Team interface will improve Usability and Learning outcomes in both contexts, however, results may differ between the two contexts. Finally, this team interface will be demonstrated as a tutoring system in a 3D VR Emergency Mine Rescue Training Simulation.
