Abstract

This paper describes the use of VoiceThread, an asynchronous online tool that allows individuals to have digital, multimedia conversations around PowerPoint slides, an image, document, audio file, or video. Several techniques for using VoiceThread to support learners in an online graduate degree program are examined, along with pedagogical implications and implementation considerations. Social presence was strengthened, students learned from experts in the field of instructional technology, and supplemental course material was delivered. Other uses of VoiceThread are also described, including small group discussions, student reflections, language learning, student assessment and instructor feedback.
