Abstract

Brazilian universities and colleges are being challenged: they need to prepare aspiring teachers to play role in virtual learning environments (VLE) and they should train faculty to the new reality of distance education (DE). How do we train faculty to understand and use DE? How do we train faculty for a new pedagogy required for the delivery of DE in the new virtual classroom? How to do that? An alternative way, that can reduce costs and time, should be on peer-to-peer education in order to allow the faculty to develop the necessary skills to teach in cyberspace. To investigate that possibility, we developed a action research project, where teachers worked on a cooperative/collaborative and interdisciplinary basis. The evaluation of the project results allows us to identify some factors that facilitate and other one that make difficult the action of self-organized teams in order to build necessary skills to teach in VLE
