Abstract
Helping students be prepared for the 21st century is an expensive undertaking that requires constant changes and training in new technologies such as tablets, smart phones, and other devices. Many schools are now trying to prepare learners for the 21st century by allowing students to bring their own device to school, through implementing policies known as BYOD instead of the school providing the technology (Jarvis, Jimison, Norris, Waskey, 2013). BYOD is a growing trend in education that capitalizes on the use of the Internet in the teaching and learning process (Horizon Report, 2011). Effectively preparing students for their future entails that districts and schools around the country leverage digital technologies to improve student learning experiences, move further into the digital learning age, and empower students to take an active role and take ownership of their own learning (NNPS, 2012).
