Abstract

The rapid expansion of social media such as blogs, wikis, and virtual words is dramatically transforming the way we teach and learn. By enabling users to shape and control information, these online social media tools provide them with a unique learning environment where they can effectively communicate and collaborate with others and creatively engage in collective knowledge building. This presentation will cover how inquiry-based instruction can be designed with social media and how social media can affect student learning and problem solving. The purpose of the presentation is to discuss practical applications of these topics to inform educators of evidence-based instructional practices. Hopefully we will discover a whole new meaning of inquiry-driven instruction when paired with social media.
