Abstract
Abstract: Abstract E-learning provides a means for maintaining and nurturing Aboriginal language and culture. However, for small language groups, software development costs could prove prohibitive. In this paper we outline a strategy for developing open source free software that will be re-usable for other language applications. We outline our efforts in developing a prototype software for teaching Cree syllabics to mature students with some minimal background in the Cree language. Our efforts highlight issues for the field of Human Computer Interaction in developing software for emerging user groups.
