Abstract

Questions about e-learning abound in both corporate and college settings. Who is making the decisions about e-learning? Who owns online courses and materials? What tools and courseware are preferred by trainers and instructors? What pedagogical and motivational strategies are utilized online? Why are many students not completing their online classes or degrees? What are some common experiences and trends in e-learning? Based on two extensive studies of online learning in the corporate and college markets, this session will document many online learning incentives, support structures, tool preferences, pedagogical ideas, and experiences. Several controversial issues in e-learning will also be addressed (e.g., course completion incentives, assessment practices, outsourcing, content ownership, accreditation, and course quality). In addition, various recommendations related to the implementation of e-learning will be offered as well as several amusing future trends.
