Abstract

The primary purpose of this paper is to describe a collaborative professional development effort focusing on using Internet for instruction and educational reform. This is a collaboration between a large urban district and science educators at an urban university for the purpose of working with science, mathematics and social studies teachers to develop their abilities to use telecommunications for professional development, curriculum development, and instruction in the classroom. This paper will address the program design, targeted outcomes, and successes, as well as, the difficulties faced by urban teachers as they attempted to implement Internet-based instruction and the solutions that enabled them to develop effective and collaborative Internet-based lessons.
