Abstract
As of 2010, all university-level teacher promotion courses in Japan must state their objectives and monitor each student’s performance toward attaining the objectives by keeping student portfolios. However, few universities intend to conduct evidence-based assessment of student performance. In response, Matsuda and Ishii (2012) proposed an evidence-based assessment method and developed an e-portfolio system. In this study, I designed and implemented the test-based assessment system they proposed. I then conducted a formative evaluation of student ability using test items created by lecturers of various subjects. However, the test items were not sufficient to assess students’ achievement of the curriculum goals. Therefore, I designed a framework to help students perform self-evaluations and to promote their continuous learning, including learning outside class. Because this framework and the support system were designed not specifically for teacher promotion courses but for general use, it is expected that they can be applied to many contexts.
