Abstract

This paper addresses the important role of information design in the design and development of online database-driven educational websites. Using our own collaborative projects to build a structural framework, we discuss lessons learned from a variety of educational website projects that have informed the design and development of our current multimedia projects. Though still in the developmental phase, our experience continues to explore the evolution of information design and technology to serve user and data needs. Thus far, the three practical lessons that our team has learned are the need for dynamic structures to enable content growth, allowing for user-generated content, and interactive presentation of information.
