Twitter is one of the social networks tools which can be integrated to educational environments. It is questioned whether Twitter is a good and effective communication tool, since the tweets are limited to 140 characters. Thus, a competition called “The best theme in 140 characters” was carried out in a private elementary school in Turkey. In this regard, the elementary school students and researchers communicated only through twitter as a competition rule, and face to face communication was realized. Students could send Tweets regarding competition rules, process and other questions. Interviews and document analysis were used as data collection tools. Besides, after competition open ended questions form was present to students. The end of competition, all of the Tweets and answers of open ended questions were assessed through content analysis and findings were discussed whether Twitter is an effective communication tool.
