Amidst the current wave of adopting new instructional media in a school setting, digital textbooks have started to be used in Korea. A digital textbook is regarded as an effective medium that combines the advantages of paper textbooks and multimedia technologies. This study investigates the predictors of academic achievement and learner satisfaction when using digital textbooks. Based on previous studies and theoretical background, student’s prior knowledge, self-directed learning ability, information literacy, academic self-efficacy, computer self-efficacy, learning attitude, cognitive presence, and teaching presence were selected as parameters and then investigated for their contributions as predictors of learning outcomes through three different studies. All of these variables were found to contribute to the learning outcomes in different subject matters. Further research is required to develop instructional strategies to improve the efficacy of these predictive variables.
