Goals of Intercultural Communication include increasing understanding between diverse groups, synthesizing diverse knowledge, and creating inclusive environments. When these goals are applied, the objective is to improve quality, improved because of the diverse input, not despite the diversity. Factors that contribute to success, such as good team communication, understanding mutual expectations, flexibility, listening, and trust, all begin with making meaningful connections to one another. This paper presents various activities educators can use to promote communication, inclusion, and understanding. Some of these activities are designed specifically to promote a sense of community but have been adapted to incorporate a critical thinking perspective. Other activities are designed to enhance collaboration on team projects or to better communicate course learning objectives. These activities help to model communication and soft skills students need to be successful in the 21st century.
