Abstract

Recent research has highlighted the benefits of integrating Web 2.0 tools like blogs, wikis, and social bookmarking in teacher education. The pre-service teacher perspective of the ways in which teacher educators currently use Web 2.0 technologies in teacher education courses in a large northeastern private university in the US is presented in this paper. In open-ended survey responses, participants (n=54) reflected on the value of Web 2.0 applications in their own coursework and to their future teaching. They also suggested ways in which such technologies can be integrated into pre-service teacher education in the future. Given the importance of preparing pre-service teachers for 21st century schools, this data provides insight and some suggestions for how teacher education courses can integrate Web 2.0 applications.
