Abstract

Teachers who have collaborated in traditional classrooms know the value of partnerships. E-Classrooms allow for collaborations in any part of the world. The need for students to interact, communicate, & negotiate with students like them in another country is essential to understand the nature of globalization. This presentation discusses an online collaboration; a Global Virtual Exchange that took place between business students at New York University & H. R. College in Mumbai, India. Students viewed selected American & Indian commercials. While NYU students selected one American commercial & remade it for the Indian market, HRC students used an Indian commercial and remade it for the US market. Students asked questions about each other’s cultures to see what worked/didn't work for marketing commercials in the two societies. The projects were judged for Relevance, Originality & Impact. The online discussions were successful not only in terms of the quality but also the way students communicated & connected online.
