Abstract

Mobile learning is an area of increasing interest in the UK where a personalised approach to learning is being advocated at governmental level. To date there is limited research into its use in primary schools and this study reports on the use of Personal Digital Assistants hosting a mediascape set in a wildlife centre used by pupils aged 7-8 years old. A mixed methods approach was used and exploratory factor analysis revealed the pupils’ attitudes towards using mobile technology for learning improved after the visit and their attitude towards the technological and ergonomical user friendliness of mobile technology increased substantially. Discussion of the design and implementation of the mediascape indicates the need to embed multiple learning theories to achieve an effective mobile learning experience.
