Evaluation of Teaching Effectiveness in Computer Science Education and Related Fields: A Brief Review PROCEEDINGS

Effective teaching evaluation is an area that has been widely researched. However, it is necessary to review the current literature focusing on specific fields. The purpose of this report is to conduct a brief review in order to know the state of the research related to effective teaching evaluation in Computer Science Education (CSE) and related fields. We found the following results: (1) there is not enough literature in order to limit the research to CSE; (2) it is necessary to conduct more empirical research; (3) it is desirable to have a specific definition pertaining to CSE; (4) The most researched evaluation methodology is student evaluation of teaching; however, other types that have been researched are: observation, student assesment, portfolios, self-evaluation, questionnaires, and peer- evaluation; (5) the most dominant topics are: faculty training, teaching evaluation in engineering education, effective learning theories, and student evaluation of teaching.
