ICT- supported distance education opens up the potential for most Asian countries to boost education by overcoming the problem of access to lifelong learning and training faced by remote communities, people with various disadvantages and those who, for various reasons, cannot participate in conventional learning and training. This paper discusses key findings of the PANdora project which examined the effects and challenges of ICT uses in education for different socio-economic, cultural and gender groups in Asia, and introduces a follow-up project to further explore possibilities of various ICTs in providing open and quality lifelong education to remote, rural and marginalized communities in Asia.
