ICT Coordinators: The educators behind the scenes

This study focuses on ICT coordinators in teacher training colleges in Israel. The study aims at characterizing ICT integration in the Colleges from an ICT coordinator's perspective: vision and plans for the implementation of information technology and the means for doing so in the Colleges. The research was conducted using qualitative methods and the findings are based on a content analysis of in-depth interviews and analyses of Rubrics (STaR Chart) filled out by all participants in the study. The findings indicate that, in general, each college created its own program for implementing ICT. The coordinators pointed out the same kinds of difficulties in implementing ICT regarding faculty members, pedagogical trainers and students, as well as the difficulties of working within budgetary constraints. While indicating the importance of incorporating e-learning environments into practice in the school system, most coordinators realized that this is still in its infancy. The findings also illustrate the coordinators' ideologies and their characters.
