EFL Learners’ Experience of Online Writing by PBWiki PROCEEDINGS

A wiki is a website that can be edited from anywhere on the Internet, that keeps track of changes so one can revert to a previous version, and that allows for easy link making. With social constructionist theoretical background, this present research illustrates a sample for blended technology use developing an online community for writing classes through which students’ interactions with each other were maximized by the pbwiki’s structure. Data included archival documents including 77 college prep class students’ writings stored in Pbwiki and their weekly journals which included 12 open ended questions. Additionally, nine semi-structured interviews conducted with the students. Through James Gee’s (2005) discourse analysis method, findings indicate that writing as a part of community provided students to become better writers in several terms. Through exposure to a wide variety of opinions, the students improved their ability to generate interesting ideas and felt more confident experimenting with their writing.
