This paper presents Babbelium Project, a new e-learning system for foreign language learning based on a collaborative open source environment. This project is focused on the improvement of speaking skills in order to cover an existing gap: the lack of fluence when speaking a second or foreing language. Existing systems offer solutions for that but there are still some problems as economic cost, rigid timetables and even fear of speaking. Babbelium Project presents innovative technological solutions based on video treatment to solve these obstacles. It offers people the opportunity to learn a new language usign their mother tongue knowledge (they master) as ‘credit’ to ‘pay’ that new learning.
