Abstract

The paper presents a new concept of simulation-based integrated virtual laboratories and an easy-to-use set of authoring tools that enables teachers and curriculum developers, who do not have programming or scripting skills. These Web-enabled virtual labs address educational needs of a wide range of students, from middle schools to universities. Using templates, pre-existing simulations, and wizard instructions, a user can create his/her own learning objectives, assignments, step-by-step instructions for students, worksheets, quizzes, etc. By these means virtual activities can be tailored to a particular educational goal and student audience. Newly created virtual labs can be instantly published on a public or secure website and become accessible through a learning/content management system. They can be easily integrated with online curricula, and can be run under any standard-conformant learning management systems.
