Now English education has entered new era. Bonk (2008) articulates “the World is
Open”. Surely opportunity of learning has expanded utilizing Web2.0 technologies. Now we can interact, participate, and collaborate on the web. E-learning has truly become fruitful and lively. Under this drastic change, this study introduces the results of a survey which investigated
current digital trends among Japanese university students: their digital studying environment, perception and experience of podcasting and wikis. The study was conducted in April, 2008. The number of the respondents was 160. These two Web2.0 technologies are selected among others because podcasting provides ubiquitous studying environment as well as good authentic English listening materials. Wikis, on the other hand, are selected because it can enhance students’ English writing ability through collaboration with peers, revising and editing. The results of this study will help design and implement language education.
