Abstract

Abstract: To assess the competence of software engineers seeking recertification in a software engineering environment, a team of instructional designers, training specialists, and subject matter experts devised an online assessment program that draws on experts’ reliance on schema to solve novel problems quickly. The exam requires trouble-shooting complex problems presented in a live, controlled access, software environment, and then selecting from among answer questions in an objective format. Problems presented in the assessment reflect training gaps identified from prior certification examinations.
