This paper proposes a writing support tool for learners of English and/or Japanese as a second language by using search engines. The proposed tool consists of composition and learning support module. The composition support module searches for example sentences and word usage on the Web, and verifies sentences and expressions that users wrote by the hit count. It produces a table and a graph based on the hit count of those queries, and provides usage of the expressions based on user's vocabulary level. It is considered that search logs include important information for learning support. The learning support module analyzes each user's search log and provides effective learning supports. By using the proposed writing support tool, the user can search example sentences and usage on the Web, verify the sentences and expressions which the user wrote, and learn English more effectively. This research is work-in-progress.
